Laser cladding heads must be used in conjunction with a powder feeder during operation. However, the powder feeder may experience malfunctions after prolonged use. So, how do we troubleshoot common powder feeder faults? Today, we will discuss the common issues of powder feeder equipment and their corresponding troubleshooting methods. Before performing any maintenance or troubleshooting on the powder feeder, always turn off the equipment to prevent accidental restart and wear appropriate protective gear. The most common problem with powder feeders is powder clogging, which is often caused by air leaks in the feeder. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check the airtightness of the powder feeder. Common issues affecting airtightness include damaged sealing rings and damaged powder feed cylinders.

Fault
Cause
Solution
Powder accumulation at the suction block
Reduced airtightness
Check and repair airtightness

Damaged or clogged powder delivery tube
Check if the powder delivery tube is clear or damaged; replace if necessary

Incorrect drive unit speed setting. If the speed is too high while the powder feed rate is too low, excess powder will accumulate.
Reset to an appropriate speed

Powder feed rate set too low
Increase the powder feed rate

Worn suction block or scraper block
Replace the suction block or scraper block

Moist powder
Dry the powder or replace with dry powder

Incorrect selection of suction block and scraper block
Replace with matching suction block and scraper block
Uneven powder distribution on the carrier disk
Agitator motor not started
For powders with poor flowability, it is recommended to start the agitator motor

Incorrect powder feed rate setting
Adjust the powder feed rate according to the powder's flowability
Abnormal powder output
Improper carrier gas pressure setting
Adjust the carrier gas pressure

Clogged powder outlet tube
Clear or replace the powder outlet tube

Clogged or worn suction block
Clean or replace the suction block
